Franklin Hospice is the community Hospice covering a large area of southern Auckland and Northern Waikato and a population of about 70,000 and growing. The purpose of Hospice is not always well understood and the very word – ‘Hospice’ – conjures up negative reactions in some. That is understandable but the reality is that Hospice is here to support those of us in our community who have a life-limiting illness – and their families – to Live Every Moment. Our caring and dedicated team work with patients, families, GPs and other allied health professionals to help and support those impacted by a life-limiting illness and make their journey just a bit easier.
In almost all cases, our support is delivered in the patient’s home because that is where they are most comfortable and where they like to be. Our service is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We do receive funding from the DHB but that covers less than half our costs. The rest we have to find ourselves and that is where the residents of Franklin – and their families – can and do help.

Thanks, Franklin for your on-going support of this, your community Hospice. We hope you never need our services, but if you, or a loved one does, you’ll be glad you have a wonderful facility with highly trained staff and volunteers.
